Chapter 5
Kakashi stood on a rooftop just a few jumps away from where he had
ultimately left Iruka. A sarcastic smile formed on his lips at the
dolphin's grace to not even complete himself with his own hand, instead standing
on trembling legs and quietly walking out of the alleyway towards home.
The Copy Ninja had, in his own mind, mapped out Iruka's personality as much
as possible and knew without a doubt the brunette would be suffering from
sexual tension...for every day Kakashi was missing.
A soft chuckle escaped him. 'Icha Icha is starting to show its true
influence on me.' Idly Kakashi patted the small pocket containing the
treasured book, proud he had received the alternate series without
anyone knowing it was him in the first place.
After all, it wouldn't serve his reputation if his comrades found out
he was engrossed in perverted romantic male/female novels just as much as he
was with perverted romantic male/male novels. Book three in particular.
Kakashi couldn't help but promptly remove the item as well as take a
seat on the edge of the roof, legs swinging merrily in the air. The book
automatically opened to page 87 as it was creased with wear of
continuous re-reading. And so it happened that Kakashi got caught up in his
reading that the time for his meeting with the Hokage had flown by with but a
page turn.
When the shinobi finally did close the book his internal clock told him
he best get his ass in gear so he wouldn't exceed a three hour late
arrival. With a light-hearted sigh Kakashi replaced the favored book and took
across the tops of the buildings, steadily making his way to the village
entrance where he was told to meet 'everyone'.
The closer he got Kakashi could make out the Hokage and...two members
of ANBU. A grim expression stole across his face as he was slowing his
pace, tapping upon the ground with barely a puff of dirt below his sandal.
"Glad you could make it. This mission might not have been worth the
effort without you here Kakashi."
Kakashi nodded while his eye went from one ninja to another beside the
Hokage, unable to tell who they were with the animal masks firmly in
place. The Jounin himself feeling suddenly at odds with his regular uniform
on, craving the ANBU gear he had not worn lately as he was instructing Team
7. Of course this meeting must be important if he was pulled from them...
"What might the full details of this mission be about anyhow?"
The Hokage gave a deep sigh that was never a good sign. "There has been
a defect in the ANBU ranks as of late yesterday. One of the younger
members couldn't handle the stress after one mission and had taken off from his
team."
"And you want me to go and find this guy, talk some sense into him
before bringing him back here. Correct?"
"Exactly. Time is short though, I have said you have five days to
finish but that has been cut. I'm afraid you only have two."
There was a light clench in his stomach as Kakashi looked at the
Hokage. From the corner of his vision he even saw the two other ninjas shift
their slitted gaze somewhere else, anywhere but the leader and Kakashi. "You
are going to send them out, aren't you?"
A stiff nod followed by a gentle tone. "Precautions must be taken. So
it is important you find the man before one of them do as they must kill on
sight."
Kakashi could only give a nod in return, unwilling to add anything
further to the conversation with the Hokage. Therefore he turned his attention
to his mission teammates, voice calm but holding the edge of experience.
"Both of you head out immediately and stay within sight range. I will
accompany you shortly."
The two ANBU gave quick bows before disappearing into the trees, a
sweep of wind marking their direction. Kakashi and the Hokage gave short but
respectful good-byes, the mosquito taking off towards his own home in
order to change his uniform. The whole while his mind was rushing through
possibilities of who might have ran, the Hokage having given no names,
and how he would quickly and effectively get him to come back to the
village.

The Hokage stood inside his meeting chambers in the darkness, head
bowed over a parchment with but a small lamp giving some light. Silence was
the very air only broken by the light scratches of pen over paper or the
man's soft breathing. It would be the picture of peace if there wasn't a
sting of deadly hidden talent just underlying the aura about the Hokage.
"You called for me Hokage-sama?" A shadow to the old man's left came
alive in the outlined form of a person, all but a barely seen shine off of
worn metal bands serving as arm protection from wrist to elbow.
"I see I do not have to explain the situation of your summon."
A faint shift from one leg to the other...nervous or excited? "It is
rare I am ever sought out."
The Hokage continued to write along the expanse of paper, having not
once ceased motion. "ANBU run-off. I've sent three others to seek the boy
out and bring him back before you get to him."
"You know they won't."
The pen stopped.
"They have a chance."
Another shift, slight step forward into the dim light to reveal but
half a masked face, a sinister glow from the bone white surface. "Who have you
sent then?"
"Kakashi."
Silence again...and then the hint of a human shadow disappears as not
another word is spoken nor needed. Seconds later the room is filled
once again with the rough slide of pen to parchment while the outside chills
with the movements of impending death.
***
Inside Kakashi's mind were the sounds of victory as he and the other
two ninjas ran through the forest after the rogue ANBU, enjoying the fact
that the boy took little but a day to track and hours to slowly catch up to
the rampant run away.
'He better thank us for saving his life after this.' The silver-haired
shinobi held up an arm to snag a branch, neatly swinging himself onto
the perch before dashing off again. 'If we save his life... Once we catch
up we have to keep moving still unless one of them find us.'
Kakashi weaved in and out of the treetops, quickly gaining on the worn
out ninja below and then passing overhead. He counted slowly in his mind
with each leap and bound he took before stopping, looking, and taking a
sudden dive bomb from the branches a few feet in front of the boy. Just as
Kakashi came to zero his feet settled on the mission's shoulders, sending the
boy off-balance and crashing to the forest floor with Kakashi standing
neatly upon his back, hands in pockets.
Only a brief pang of regret came to the mosquito that the young ANBU
didn't
even attempt to fight for his life, only lay on the ground breathing
heavily. Kakashi looked up as his comrades burst in the area moments
later,
one hand instinctively on sword while the other remains at the side,
fingers
looped into kunai or shuriken.
Kakashi lightly tapped on the boy's back with his foot, earning a grunt
in reply. "Let me cut this short. One, behave yourself and two come with
us."
"Why should I? You weren't there when they killed those people, when my
friends were killed!" A controlled sob ended the beginnings of a rant
and behind the ANBU mask Kakashi rolled his eyes, a stray thought coming to
him in wondering if the other two had done the same.
"We can talk about this back at the village where you won't have to
worry about being erased forever." Well that got the boy's attention as
Kakashi felt the surge of energy and settled more of his weight on the tired
out ninja. "You're not going to shoot off in the wrong direction, we've
already stayed here long enough but I've got to know if you're willing to come
along quietly."
Another grunt came from the boy and Kakashi hopped off his back, the
two other ANBU walking forward to take a hold of each of the boy's arms and
hoist him up. That's when the trouble started as the rogue lashed out,
catching one man dead on the nose of the mask while kicking the other
to the ground, quickly stamping on the temple region. Kakashi pulled out his
sword in less than half a blink when the boy rounded about to face him. "I'm
not going back."
"Glad you know that already." Both Kakashi and the boy whipped their
heads over in time to see a dark figure crouched on a low grown branch.
Somehow both feeling a chill at the mask that was spelled to mist the voice,
make it ring from all around them.
"Hunter-nin!" The boy screeched before throwing himself at the man,
lashing out with every kind of rage the small body possessed. It was this
display that Kakashi finally saw why the run away was even in ANBU as there was
a shine of metal tinged dark by the hunter-nin's blood.
The hit was short-lived when the mysterious hunter leapt back...a hiss
of wind rushing by the boy before time stood still. The hunter-nin landed
back upon the low branch leaving the boy standing, arm raised as though
ready to swing the sword yet frozen in time.
Kakashi took a breath when he focused his attention on the kunai
planted between the rogue's eyes, and yet no blood ran free. His slitted gaze
shot to the hunter-nin just as the boy fell, leaving him the only one
standing with his ANBU teammates laying unconscious upon the grassy floor.
The other man seemed to have no attention on the Copy Ninja as he leapt
off to land near the body, checking to make sure he had indeed killed the
boy. Kakashi could only stare as though a statue, honestly he could say he
had never gotten a clear view of a Hidden Leaf hunter-nin before. The
uniform was meant for silence as it clung to the body with only sections of
fabric missing upon the legs and he duly noted the black cloth about the
hunter's neck unlike the bright red of his own.
"Who are you?" The question spilled from Kakashi's mouth before he
could stop it, the other man just seeming so at ease in the instructor's
presence though he had just killed the objective Kakashi had intended to save.
The Jounin only confirmed the other man was human when there was a
tightening of the back when bending over, the bright red of the run away's attack
made the hunter-nin uniform wet with life's fluid.
The hunter-nin hefted the dead body upon his shoulder before turning to
face the man in the ANBU uniform, bleached mask contrasted sharply by the
flowing strands of black. "I don't want you to be on my other shoulder. So it's
better I don't answer that..." With both a warning and a threat the man
jumped off into the trees, blending with the darkness and leaving
Kakashi to carry his own bundle back to the village.
***
As Kakashi pushed past the doors of the medical ward he made a full
body stretch, giving a soft moan of pleasure upon feeling small cracks from
his spine. Sure he was strong but even Kakashi could get tired of carrying
two full-grown men on his shoulders until they woke up...which was just as
he was nearing the village. Needless to say, the shinobi wanted nothing
more then to lounge on a warm bed drifting in and out of sleep at his
leisure.
The only problem with that scenario was that every time he closed his
eyes he would see flashes of metal or spots of crimson in front of an ivory
hued mask that gave nothing away, no face and no name. Just a feeling of
suppressed sorrow that Kakashi had no way of explaining about how he
even knew the fact, maybe having felt it before somewhere.
Seemed there was only one cure for Kakashi. And that was to see how the
school teacher had fared with the knowledge of what Kakashi's feelings
were.
With a smile on his face Kakashi made it to Iruka's home in record time
as the very man was just about to unlock the door. Silently the
silver-haired ninja landed just behind poor Iruka before grasping the brunette's
shoulders to spin him around. Iruka gave a startled yelp as his back met his
front door with a gentle thump, vision filled with Kakashi's face.
"Evening Iruka-sensei," Kakashi whispered into Iruka's ear. He chuckled
softly as he leaned back to witness the lovely bright red spread across
the dolphin's cheeks. The Jounin then stepped forward, pressing himself
against Iruka's body much like he had the night in the alley.
Iruka meanwhile gave a sharp yelp of pain causing Kakashi to leap back
in surprise, watching as the teacher placed his hands upon his stomach,
not quite clutching but acting as though it would ward off the pain. The
single eye widened faintly as the front of Iruka's uniform turned dark and he
immediately rushed forward to take hold of the bottom of the shirt.
"Kakashi, don't!" Iruka grabbed the mosquito's wrists but was rebuked
and could only turn his head away, moisture forming at the corners of his
dark eyes when the shirt was lifted.
Kakashi felt his heart skip within his chest as he saw the once white
bandages being stained with blood. The first aid being applied mainly
to stomach but the rest of the deep wound was still fresh, a straight line
from torso to the middle of Iruka's chest. Just like- "Please
Iruka...anything but this."
