Chapter 3 – “Me and You”
so make me feel again
feel your every breath again
never mind everyone
there’s only me and you…
Iruka glanced anxiously at the clock in his academy classroom. It was 12:49. Iruka groaned and noted to himself that time seemed to be moving excruciatingly slow today. He hurriedly scribbled down a grade for the previous student that had just performed the Henge no Jutsu and transformed into the irritated teacher himself.
“Good, good,” Iruka grumbled, “Next please, it’s almost lunch time…” The next student brought herself up and transformed perfectly. Iruka hurried through the next few students and gave a sigh of relief when the bell finally rang. He gathered his books and headed towards the lunchroom.
“Good afternoon Iruka-sensei!” Aneko said as Iruka walked to the teacher’s table.
“Hello ladies,” Iruka said with a smile as he sat down. Yumi smiled warmly at him and continued eating her lunch.
“Hello love,” a familiar voice whispered in Iruka’s ear, causing a shiver to run down his back. Iruka turned and smiled at the silver-haired man beside him.
“Sit down,” he motioned to Kakashi.
“Of course,” Kakashi said as he gracefully took a seat and pulled two cups of ramen from his pack, “I brought lunch today!” Kakashi smiled brightly as he handed a cup to Iruka.
“Why, thank you!” Iruka said joyfully as he took the cup from his secret lover. The two ate lunch in a blissful silence as the excited sounds of chatter and laughter floated throughout the lunchroom. The two exchanged affectionate glances a few times before their relaxed silence was broken.
“So,” Aneko began, “Where are your students Kakashi?”
“Yes,” Yumi interrupted, “I hear they’re doing very well, moving right on up with the other Genins in their class.”
“Ah yes…” Kakashi sighed, “My pupils. They’re probably off somewhere fighting over which ramen shop to eat at. As for improving, yes they are, especially that Naruto.”
“Yes, Naruto…” Iruka laughed, “He’s a special one.” Kakashi gave a big grin and laughed through his mask.
“So,” Kakashi said as he turned his head towards Iruka, “Has Iruka-sensei told you about his exciting news?” Iruka stiffened up immediately and he whirled his head around quickly to look at Kakashi.
“Oh no,” Aneko said, “What is it?”
“YAY!” Yumi exclaimed, “Juicy info! Tell us!” Iruka’s face reddened and he began to sweat profusely. ‘I can’t tell them!’ he thought, ‘What will they think of me?’
“Yes Iruka-san, tell us,” Kakashi said, sensing Iruka’s apprehension, “Please…” He had whispered the last part and it sounded more like a plea than a demand.
“I… umm… I-I…” Iruka stuttered, turning an even darker shade of crimson.
“Come on Iruka!” Aneko said loudly, “Spit it out!” Iruka sighed and then took in a deep breath. ‘This is it,’ Iruka thought, ‘Now or never!’
“I’mgayandmeandKakashiareloversandIlovehimawholelot!” Iruka squeaked out all at once. Yumi’s excited face turned into a frown and Iruka almost passed out. ‘Great,’ he thought, ‘I’ll never be able to show face anywhere again…’
“Man…” Yumi said sadly, “I thought you had something new!”
“WHAT?!” Iruka yelled out and Kakashi laughed.
“Yeah,” Aneko said, “We kind of already figured out that you ‘swung that way’ a long time ago.” Iruka nearly fell out of his chair.
“You see love,” Kakashi said happily, “It’s not that hard to love a scarecrow.”

The snow fell lightly over the Konoha village on the windy December day. It had been months since Iruka’s not-so-secret secret had been confessed to the town. He’d felt a great load taken off of his shoulders and had nearly shouted his love for Kakashi from the rooftops. But with Iruka being the quiet dolphin that he is, he was satisfied with yelling it from the streets. The two walked together down the chilly winter streets, talking about the day’s events and the celebrations to come.
“My scarecrow?” Iruka asked quietly.
“Yes love?” Kakashi replied looking up at the snowflakes.
“What’d you get me for Christmas?” Iruka inquired.
“Oh no,” Kakashi laughed, “You’ll have to wait until Christmas!”
“But I can’t!” Iruka whined, sounding much like a young child.
“Well what’d you get me?” Kakashi asked as they past Naruto’s favorite ramen shop. Iruka stopped and pulled Kakashi close. The tiny snowflakes fell lightly in his masked face and melted instantly. Then Iruka reached up and jerked the mask down and firmly planted his lips upon Kakashi’s. They two stood there for sometime in that loving embrace before they parted.
“And there’s many more where that came from!” Iruka said firmly as he grabbed Kakashi’s hand and pulled him down the snowy street. Inside the ramen shop three pairs of eyes turned back to their hot lunches.
“Ahh…” Sakura said, “I wish I could have a love like that, don’t you Sasuke?” Sasuke just glanced up at her and continued eating his ramen.
“You mean you want a girlfriend?” Naruto said loudly as he laughed and pointed at Sakura. She frowned diligently and grew red with anger.
“NO! BAKA! I LIKE BOYS!” Sakura yelled out. Then she got an evil gleam in her eye and added her last remark, “Just like you!”
“BAH!! NO! I like girls! But Iruka-sensei is still the best! Even if he does date Kakashi-sensei,” Naruto shouted and then started eating his ramen in silence, having been out-snubbed by Sakura… again.
“Poor guy…” Sasuke added quietly and the three laughed in unison.
